I started in the world of estate agency back in 1985 earning £26.25 per week on the Youth Training Scheme (YTS). I went into this business because, having left school with O'levels in only maths and art, it was either finding a job which involved painting by numbers or using my other skill, the gift of the gab!
My career began at Taylors in their Abington office where, having only just started taking driving lessons, I could walk to my valuations and viewings. I remember a two bedroom terraced house in Artizan Road was £16,000!
After Taylors I worked for a variety of corporate and independent firms until 1996 when I decided I’d had enough of daggled carrots and broken promises and would do it my way.
Horts has now been going for 28 years. It is a professional company with great people. We take the job very seriously but have fun doing it. If you judge a company on low staff turnover and clients that return repeatedly, then I guess we have got things just about right.
